Chemical Peels in Chevy Chase, MD and Washington, D.C.
The skin comprises many layers, the outermost of which is called the epidermis; this is the soft tissue you see when you look in the mirror. The epidermis is a protective layer which can develop freckles, age spots, wrinkles, and dead skin cells. New skin is generated at the bottom of the epidermis. As old cells fall off, they are replaced by fresh, new skin cells from this deeper layer.
A chemical peel helps to accelerate the sloughing off process that the skin naturally goes through. It uses an acidic solution to remove layers of the epidermis manually. Light chemical peels treat only the outermost portion of the skin, while medium depth peels penetrate underlying layers. There are many benefits to light a.k.a. superficial peels, and medium depth chemical peels. At Capital Facial Plastic Surgery, we offer these chemical peels among our diverse skin care options.
Superficial chemical peels provide light exfoliation, removing only the outermost layers of skin. Among the best skin care options, light peels are ideal for treating uneven pigmentation, acne, and fine lines. They also restore a bright, healthy appearance.
During the procedure, your doctor will use a cotton ball, brush, sponge, or gauze to apply an acidic solution to your skin. This will whiten the treatment areas and cause a mild stinging sensation. To complete the procedure, your doctor will wash or apply neutralizing chemicals to your skin to remove the acidic solution.
This is our gentlest peeling option, requiring no downtime and minimal recovery post-treatment. Side effects including redness, dryness, and mild irritation last only a few hours and may become less noticeable with every succeeding treatment. Initially, light peels can be performed every few weeks for dramatic skin improvement, then monthly for maintenance.
Medium depth peels provide deeper peeling than the superficial peel. They can therefore treat deeper wrinkles and discoloration, making them among the best skin care options available to our patients.
The procedure involves the use of gauze or a cotton-tipped applicator to spread an acidic solution on your skin, which becomes pale. You might also feel burning and stinging in the treatment areas for around 20 minutes. Your doctor will use cool compresses and maybe even a fan to alleviate this discomfort.
Medium peels offer more dramatic results than light peels. While the treatment requires a longer recovery, side effects such as redness, stinging, and swelling can be soothed using ice packs, pain medication, and protective ointments. Typically, we use medium peels to transform the skin, then maintain results with regular superficial peels.
We exclusively use PCA Skin peels for both our light and medium depth chemical peels. Dr. Adam Singleton loves this brand of high-quality, innovative peel, as it offers some of the best results in the industry with minimal downtime.
Dr. Singleton and his team meets with each prospective patient before their procedure to discuss treatment goals and skin care options, allowing for the selection of an effective peeling solution. He’ll also provide skin care information including recovery instructions, as well as a post-peel skin care package that each patient will go home with. All peels are administered by Dr. Singleton or one of our well-trained staff members in one of our comfortable, private treatment rooms.
Quality Skin Care Products in Washington, D.C.
The need for surgical intervention to correct cosmetic issues may crop up once every handful of years, but effective skin care is a daily necessity. The skin care products you use at home can produce favorable or unfavorable cosmetic results. When you use the right products, they enhance the results of your in-office treatments, leading to a better result and healthier skin. The wrong products can hold you back, making it more difficult to achieve your skin care goals.
We know that choosing skin care products for your skin type and concerns is difficult. Let Dr. Singleton discuss the available skin care options and guide you toward effective and targeted treatments for your skin. We carry products from PCA Skin and Face MD. Each line was carefully chosen by Dr. Singleton; we only recommend products we know and trust.
PCA Skin has been innovating skin products since 1990. The company was founded by an aesthetician and developed by a dermatologist. Their skin care products are some of most innovative in the industry. We love PCA Skin for their line of chemical peels, which are the only peels we offer here at Capital Facial Plastic Surgery. Their extended product line is just as astounding; they offer solutions for every skin type, concern, and color.
Founded in 1988, Obagi products are long-held favorites in the aesthetics industry. This line was designed for problem skin, and their formulations are excellent for treating premature aging, sun damage, hyperpigmentation, and acne. Dr. Singleton can help you create your own customized Obagi skin regimen, designed specifically for your skin type and concerns.
Face MD skin care products are available exclusively to a handful of medical offices. This product line is medically developed using natural ingredients that are effective on all skin types. It uses no artificial coloring or fragrances and contains no unnecessary additives or fillers. It is also well tolerated by most patients. Finally, it yields dramatic skin improvement with consistent use.
